Winter in the Portes du Soleil

Châtel is part of one of the largest ski resorts in the world: Les Portes du Soleil. The real fanatics can enjoy varied day trips with spectacular views and fantastic descents. Such as the famous and infamous ' Le Mur Suisse ', a descent that you only can see when you look  over the edge of the slope. Something less spectacular is also possible. Super-Châtel, Pré-la-Joux or the Linga are ideal for beginners. The area is also attractive for freestyle snowboarders, with as many as nine snow parks, including one in Super-Châtel. This snowpark is equipped with various jumps and half-pipes.

Roundtrip Portes du Soleil

From Châtel do the round of Portes du Soleil which you can ski from village to village. You can do this roundtrip  in a day and it helps if you already have built up what condition.  Take the bus or car from Châtel to Pré-la-Joux. This is the starting point towards Avoriaz. On from Avoriaz to Les Crosets and from there via Morgins back to Châtel. Les Portes du Soleil:

  • 650 km of slopes
  • 440 km2 (in France and Switzerland)
  • 266 ski slopes for all levels: 25 black, 100 red, 106 blue and 35 Green
  • 195 lifts
  • 10 snow parks
  • 694 snow cannons throughout the ski season
  • 89 restaurants directly on the slopes

Skiing in and around Châtel

If you prefer to ski in a smaller ski area,  the area in and around Châtel is suitable. The area consists of two parts: Super-Châtel/Barbossine and Linga-Pré-la-Joux/Plain Dranse. Since the winter season 2014/2015,  a brand new elevator has opened that connects those two areas. The ski pass for this area is also valid in the Swiss ski resort of Morgins, Torgon and Abondance.

Near Châtel you will find:

  • 1 boarder-cross course

Between Petit-Châtel, Châtel and Pré-la-Joux you can take the free shuttle. The bus to the Centre of the village and the Linga, stops right in front of the chalet.
